VALOR Code Breakdown

The word "Valor" means "security" in Swiss (or "Valoren", plural meaning "securities").  Companies obtaining Valoren numbers do so a number of reasons, mainly to identify securities, including:

  • Valoren are issued to identify securities and financial instrument.
  • Can be employed along side the ISIN or a Market Identifier Code (MIC)
  • Utilized to identify a traded security such as stocks, bonds, warrants, etc and is employed for reporting purposes.
  • Unlike ISINs that are deleted or made inactive following a securities expiration, Valoren numbers for derivatives are often recycled and re-used after expiration.
